It’s nearly that time of year again when the trick-or-treaters will be out in force, asking their neighbours for sweet foods or threatening to do some tricks! So, unless you’re a fan of their tricks, it’s a good time for kids and parents alike to get creative in the kitchen

Halloween Food
Prep time: 15 mins
Cook time: 15 mins
Serves: 12 cupcakes
Ingredients
Any chocolate cupcake recipe will do (for this creation, I just used an Edmonds Cookery Book cupcake recipe)
Chocolate icing
Oreos - smashed up to look like actual dirt (I used a mortar and pestle to do this, but you could easily pulse them too)
Gummy worms or sour worms (or other creepy crawlies would work as well, such as gummy spiders)
Method
Cook the chocolate cupcakes and allow them to cool completely.
Crush the oreos up into crumbs (cream filling included), and put them into a bowl. Set aside.
Ice your cupcakes
Sprinkle the ‘dirt’ crumbs on to the iced cupcakes (before the icing sets properly) and kind of press the dirt gently into the icing
Lay your gummy worms or spiders (or any edible creepy crawlies of your choosing) on top of the dirt. Serve.
White Chocolate Strawberry ‘Ghosts’
Prep time: about 10 mins
Cook time: none
Serves: as many strawberries as you can cover with the melted chocolate (for this creation, I used a small punnet of strawberries with one block of cooking chocolate)
Ingredients
A punnet of strawberries
White cooking chocolate (I used Pam’s Finest White Chocolate Block)
Candy eyes - I just used mini dark chocolate drops
Wax or parchment paper.
Method
Melt the white chocolate.
Dip strawberries one at a time into the melted chocolate, dragging out some of the chocolate on the bottom of each strawberry to create ghost tails.
Set the dipped chocolate strawberries on wax or parchment paper. Place candy eyes on front of each strawberry. Let harden on parchment or wax paper.
Once the chocolate has set, gently peel each ‘ghost’ from the parchment paper, place them on a plate, serve and devour!
