KEY POINTS:
Wall Street is not really a place known for displays of nostalgia and corny sentimentality.
However, even the most hard-nosed brokers and traders on the floor will take a moment in New York early tomorrow morning (NZ time) to recall how the Dow plunged nearly 23 per cent on "Black Monday", exactly 20 years ago.
It started the biggest crash on Wall St since the famous one in 1929.
It'll be back to business on the bourse in short order, though.
After shuddering at the memory and drying their briefly misty eyes, all the modern-day 'Gordon Gekko' types will then turn their attention to the earnings season, which hits full swing in the US this week.
Investors will also get their first full taste of how the housing meltdown affected corporate profits.
* Gordon Gekko was a fictional character from the 1987 film Wall Street, played to deliciously ruthless excess by a young Michael Douglas.
