WELLINGTON - Markets for New Zealand's export commodities continue to show tentative signs of recovery.
The ANZ Bank index which tracks prices for a basket of New Zealand's main export commodities is up 4 per cent from its floor in early 1999, in world price terms.
It rose a provisional 1 per cent last month, reversing June's 0.7 per cent fall.
Better meat, wood and aluminium prices offset weaker dairy and horticultural prices.
The weak exchange rate over the past two months has meant that in New Zealand dollar terms commodity prices rose 2.9 per cent in June and a further 1.9 per cent last month.
But they are still 3.5 per cent lower than a year ago.
