A bankrupted New Zealand designer who once worked on palaces for Saudi royalty is now facing charges for alleged tax evasion.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Tom Skyring after a summons for him to appear in court could not be served, a Auckland District Court registrar said.
The 51-year-old was due to first appear in court on the charges on Tuesday but a registrar said it was believed Skyring had been out of the country since November last year.
Skyring, according to court documents, is accused by Inland Revenue of having evaded or having tried to evade the assessment or payment of income tax and GST.
The award-winning designer also faces charges that he knowingly did not provide information to Inland Revenue with the intention to evade an assessment or payment of tax.
