KEY POINTS:
Maverick real estate agency The Joneses plans to list on the sharemarket next year in a move it says will give investors a slice of the $1.2 billion national residential property sales market.
Chris Taylor, head of the fixed-fee agency, said the company would have a market capitalisation around $17 million.
The Joneses has only four offices but wants to have at least 15 and Taylor said the listing would enable the firm to grow.
"In a few years' time, we aim to be in every major city across New Zealand," he said.
The firm had been forced to turn away hundreds of potential customers because it did not have the ability to meet demand, he said.
But the listing was not the usual initial public offering because it was not being done to raise any specific amount of money, Taylor said.
Instead, the firm would raise money from private investors before the listing. Founding shareholders in the business only held 60 per cent of the firm and the remaining 40 per cent of the company was held by private investors, Taylor said.
The founders were Taylor, Chris Knox and Peter Botica who launched a new way to buy and sell property at a set fee.
The Joneses has offices in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
