Wall St surged today, with the Nasdaq up more than 3 per cent, as an unexpected rise in February housing starts and an upbeat broker comment on bellwether Cisco Systems gave investors confidence.
Housing permits jumped 22.2 per cent in February, the biggest percentage rise since January 1990.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 126.64 points, or 1.76 per cent, to 7,343.61.
The Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 18.88 points, or 2.50 per cent, to 772.77.
And the Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 45.43 points, or 3.24 per cent, to 1,449.45.
