KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand sharemarket spluttered into life this morning, after falling to a one-month low on Friday. But only just.
The NZSX-50 benchmark index rose 1.559 points to 4228.273 in opening trading, recovering a little of the 40.43 point decline on Friday.
Telecom was unchanged at 431 and Contact rose 1c to 906.
The Warehouse was down 8c at 557 and Pumpkin Patch rose 2c to 307. Fletcher Building rose 3c to 12.21.
The modest gains came after the US market had a strong day on Friday, the Dow Jones industrial average rising 134.78 points, or 0.99 per cent, to end at 13,806.70.
