KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand sharemarket opened flat today, despite markets in the United States ending last week on a record breaking note.
Around 10 minutes after the NZX's 10am opening, the benchmark NZSX-50 index was up just 0.22 points to 4243.88.
Some positive momentum came from Auckland International Airport, which was up 1c early today to 331 on turnover of about 775,000 shares.
That was countered by early 1c falls in leading stocks Fletcher Building, to 1243, and Telecom, to 465.
Also down 1c were Freightways, to 390, and Hallenstein Glasson, to 464.
Among stocks to rise early were Air New Zealand up 2c to 264, Hellaby Holdings up 3c to 343, Infratil up 3c to 320, Property for Industry up 2c to 150, Ryman Healthcare up 2c to 223, and Sanford up 4c to 425.
Viking Capital was up 7c, or 28 per cent, early to 32, after announcing it had finalised the terms of a lease of two freeze dryers to ICP Biotechnology, in which it has a 13.6 per cent shareholding.
