WELLINGTON - The sharemarket was slightly weaker at open today as Wall Street continued to hit records.
The NZX-50 index eased 2.06 points to 3593.65.
The move came after US stocks rose on Thursday, with the Dow hitting fresh all-time closing and intraday highs.
Stronger than expected sales at coffee chain Starbucks Corp and robust September sales at some department and clothing stores increased optimism about corporate profits.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 8.48 points, or 0.07 per cent, at 11,859.09. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 2.27 points, or 0.17 per cent, at 1352.49. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 11.52 points, or 0.50 per cent, at 2302.47.
In New Zealand, Telecom eased 1c to 426.
Contact Energy rose 2c to 705.
Fisher & Paykel Appliances was up 2c at 385 but the healthcare unit was down 1c at 415.
Infratil eased 1c to 411 and Mainfreight rose 1c to 647. The Warehouse was down 8c at 651, nearing the level that Woolworths bought in at.
