The Government's industrial policy might include funding for specific initiatives, Enterprise and Commerce Minister Max Bradford said yesterday.
Mr Bradford said: "We've known something was wrong, but it was hard to turn round the supertanker of Government driven by macro economic policies. Those are important, but they are not enough to create a knowledge-based economy."
He was responding to a call for such policies by the Manufacturers Federation and the Business Herald. The need for a coordinated approach was the conclusion of a conference sponsored by the two organisations.
David Moloney, president of ManFed, and Rod Oram, editor of the Business Herald, yesterday presented Mr Bradford with papers from the conference.
