KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand dollar climbed throughout Friday night and early Saturday to reach an 11-week high above US77.65c.
After its precipitous decline in July and August from above US81c to around US66.50c, the kiwi has now added US10c in the past eight weeks.
By 8am today, the NZ dollar was buying US77.55c from US77.02c at 5pm on Friday, despite the greenback snapping a three-day drop against the euro and gaining on the yen at the end of last week.
The NZ dollar hit a nine-week high against the yen, and by 8am today was at 91.13 yen, from 90.41 on Friday evening.
Against the euro, the kiwi was at 0.5472 at the local opening today, from 0.5427, while against the Australian dollar it was at A85.88c from A85.52c. The trade weighted index was 72.80 at 8am today from 72.31 at 5pm on Friday.
