The New Zealand dollar eased off a little yesterday after attracting strong buying interest overnight.
The local unit hit a Thursday night high of 42.45USc after statistics released in the United States showed the number of Americans filing for state unemployment insurance rose sharply last week to a five-year high, putting the skids on the greenback.
A weaker Australian dollar took the gloss off the kiwi's rally. The aussie slumped to 51.78USc from 52c at Thursday's close.
