The kiwi consolidated gains made over the long weekend today, ending the day's local session over the US63c mark,
The kiwi was buying US63.17c at 5pm in Wellington from US63.35c at 8.30 this morning and US62.20c at 5pm on Friday.
The kiwi's trading range for the day was US63.00 to US63.45c.
Westpac's chief currency dealer, Basil Payn, said the kiwi moved higher during the long weekend against a weaker greenback, following the release of stronger than expected US payroll data on Friday.
The Australian dollar moved above the US70c mark, to end the day at US70.45c (US69.22c at 5pm Friday).
US data released on Friday showed 248,000 new non-farm jobs had been added in May, above market expectations of 216,000 new jobs.
But the data was not enough to fan expectations the Fed would go beyond its pledged "measured" pace of tightening and raise rates by a half point at the meeting of its policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee at the end of June, analysts said.
Meanwhile the local market is looking towards Thursday's Reserve Bank of New Zealand Monetary Policy Statement at which the central bank is expected to hike rates by 25 basis points to 5.75 per cent.
Mr Payn said the US dollar still looks a little weak, which could see the kiwi continue to grind higher up until Thursday's rate announcement.
He said the kiwi was likely to find support at around US63c, with resistance at US63.50c and then US63.80c.
Meanwhile, the US dollar was trading at 109.75 yen (111.09), and the euro was buying US$1.2322 (US$1.2215).
On the crosses at 5pm, the kiwi was buying A89.67c (A89.94c), 0.5127 euros (0.5090), 34.35 British pence (33.89), 69.33 yen (69.04), 0.7811 Swiss francs (0.7777).
The trade-weighted index was at 64.02 (63.52), while the monetary conditions index was at plus 421 (405).
On the money market, 90-day bank bill yields were at 5.99 per cent (6.02), February 2006 bonds were at 5.89 per cent (5.87), July 2009s were at 6.12 per cent (6.08), and April 2013s were at 6.26 per cent (6.19).
