The New Zealand dollar nudged another three-week low against the US dollar today, but closed a touch higher against its Australian counterpart.
At 5pm the kiwi was buying US69.24c, compared with US69.73c at last night's local close.
It touched a low of US69.07c during the local session, but managed to hold its head above what traders see as the next critical level on the down side, US68.70c.
Against the Australian dollar the kiwi rallied slightly to US91.02c from US90.73c.
Migration figures out today showed New Zealand recorded a seasonally-adjusted gain of 650 long-term and permanent arrivals in August, after a loss of 70 people the previous month. The result was in line with Reserve Bank forecasts.
Next week is another heavy on the local data front, with merchandise trade figures on Tuesday, gross domestic product (GDP) figures on Thursday and a business confidence survey on Friday.
The data could path the way for another move lower if the come in weak, as expected.
