The New Zealand dollar has dropped about a cent against the US dollar overnight.
Part of the reason is the rising current account deficit, now at around $9.4 billion a year.
The US dollar has also recovered on the back of rising interest rates.
Business correspondent Roger Kerr says the kiwi could come under further pressure later today with the release of GDP figures.
The dollar was this morning trading at at 71.71 US cents.
