The Bay of Plenty Development team posted a big win and a loss in their two ND Development competition games, played at the Tauranga Domain during the Auckland Anniversary weekend.
Northland batted first in the Basil McBurney Trophy match played on Sunday. The visitors were in a solid position at 155/5, however the Bay bowlers struck back to remove their last five batsmen for 29 runs and bowl them out for 184.
Jason Trembath grabbed three wickets for 43 runs with Shane Wineti and Alex Gooding taking two wickets apiece.
The Bay openers, Tai Bridgeman-Raison and Elliot Timoti, put the home team in a strong position. Bridgeman-Raison went on to top score with an unbeaten 71 after Timoti fell on 47. However, the arrival of Bay captain Peter Wood continued the momentum, with the skipper posting a solid 48, as he led his side to a comprehensive nine wicket victory.
For the second day in a row, the Bay of Plenty team bowled first at the Tauranga Domain, as they backed up against Counties Manukau. While Bay of Plenty bowled with enthusiasm, the reality was that they allowed the Counties batsmen to score around 30 runs too many, as the visitors posted 249/7. Gooding backed up from game one with a further two wickets, with Mike Jones also taking two wickets in his Bay Development debut.
