Work has started on the next part of Te Okuroa Drive which will give residents in Papamoa East a second route out of the suburb.
The previous works were aligning the existing Te Okuroa Dr. Current work will be building the road through fields into Palm Springs subdivision.
Councillor Steve Morris said it was good news for the community.
"We're on track to deliver the promised road right down to Emerald Shores Drive by 2018 as well as additional water supply and stormwater upgrades."
To cater for the rapid growth of Papamoa East and ease the burden on existing residents the new Council brought the $20 million project forward five years. It will ease congestion on the eastern section of Papamoa Beach Rd.
