Unbroken Spirit, an art exhibition highlighting ethnic domestic violence, opens tonight at the Historic Village.
The exhibition, organised by Shakti Ethnic Women's Support Group in collaboration with Venus IQNZ, will feature 50 artworks made locally and internationally. Shakti Ethnic Women's Farida Sultana said the organisation and the exhibition aimed to highlight domestic violence in the ethnic community in the Bay.
"Our main focus is to break the cycle in the community and to empower women and children," she said. Five of the artist featured were local and explored themes of domestic abuse, violence and war. "These pictures are brilliant. These women are not professionals but they have expressed their feelings and what they have gone through in their lives."
The evening will also include a three-course meal, with dishes from Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Money raised will go to Shakti and be used to support international charities.
The exhibition, at The Incubator in the village, will be on display for the next two weeks.
