A severe weather warning has placed a large question mark over New Year's Eve plans at Mount Maunganui.
The weather warning was issued by MetService yesterday for the Bay of Plenty. Heavy rain was forecast to drench the region from today.
The poor weather has prompted Tauranga City Council to reconsider annual plans for New Year's Eve festivities at Mount Maunganui's Main Beach.
A decision is expected today on whether the council will erect a second stage, as planned, to go along with a larger main stage as part of Tauranga's main New Year's Eve Event.
The fate of the main stage will not be decided until tomorrow, New Year's Eve.
