Tourism Bay of Plenty should be re-named Tourism Tauranga, a city councillor says.
Councillor John Robson is calling for the organisation to consider changing its name to better reflect the amount Tauranga ratepayers fund the organisation each year.
Tourism Bay of Plenty receives $1,008,965 in funding from Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty Regional Council, with the majority ($825,613) coming from the city council.
At yesterday's City Vision committee meeting, Tourism Bay of Plenty general manager Rhys Arrowsmith presented the organisation's plans for the next financial year, including their budget, which revealed they planned to spend more than $230,000 on marketing.
Councillor John Robson asked Mr Arrowsmith if the organisation would consider the name change saying it made sense considering "who funds you".
