A Katikati man who clocked up his fifth drink-driving conviction in just under three years after crashing head-on into another car has been jailed for a year.
Shaye Taylor, aka McIntosh, 20, was sentenced in Tauranga District Court yesterday after earlier pleading guilty to one charge each of driving with an excess blood alcohol (third or subsequent offence) careless driving causing injury and driving while disqualified.
He was also sentenced on charges of theft of $13.87 of petrol and obtaining $150 by deception.
Taylor was also indefinitely disqualified for a minimum of 13 months by Judge Peter Rollo.
The court was told that on September 17 last year Taylor was driving back from Opotiki when he lost control on a bend, crossed the centre line and crashed head-on into another vehicle.
