Police are searching the Wairoa River after reports a car had driven into it this evening.
Northern police communications inspector Chris Tate said police received a report around 6.40pm that a vehicle had driven into Wairoa River but it appeared it had driven out again.
Mr Tate said police could not find a vehicle in the river.
A Tauranga St John's spokesperson confirmed ambulance staff, police and fire services personnel attended the call after a member of the public called 111 believing a vehicle had gone into the river underneath the Wairoa Bridge.
After investigating, emergency services failed to find any signs of a vehicle in the river, St John's spokesperson said.
