A faulty pump at the Te Maunga Wastewater Treatment Plant in Mount Maunganui has left a bad smell in the area.
The odour is quite unpleasant and, depending on the wind, reaches beyond Te Maunga Lane and into the adjacent residential area, said Tauranga City Council Communication Advisor Marcel Currin in a release.
The faulty pump created problems with one of the wastewater treatment plant clarifiers which caused the odour.
Staff were alerted to the problem on Tuesday and the fault that was identified today and has been fixed.
The system is back to working as normal and the smell will hopefully retreat over the next 24 hours, said the statement.
