Tauranga bargain hunters were given a new way of securing a deal when Treat Me, an offshoot of Trade Me, started offering local deals this morning.
Hundreds snapped up the first Tauranga deal - $1 bagels from newcomer to the city Wholly Bagels - this morning.
James MacAvoy, head of Treat Me, said he was excited to bring the deal website to the region.
"Eighty per cent of Tauranga residents over the age of 18 have a Trade Me account and since launching Treat Me in March, we've been getting a lot of interest from both businesses and local residents," Mr MacAvoy said.
He said the region already had 22,000 signed up to Treat Me.
Since Treat Me launched four months ago, nearly half a million subscribers had signed up to receive deals from businesses in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Otago, and Waikato.
Treat Me negotiates deals that are only activated when a certain number of customers sign up to get the offer.
Since the website's launch, one of the most popular vouchers sold in one deal was 11,755 in 24 hours for $4 entry into Parakai Springs.
The fastest selling vouchers were for a Burger Fuel Auckland launch deal, where 300 vouchers were sold every minute the deal was live.
Today's deal was restricted to two deals per customer - one for yourself and one to gift to a friend. More than 850 were sold when this newspaper went to print.
Wholly Bagels baker Travis Finlay said the company was "excited" to get involved with Treat Me. "We would love more people to come in and try our products," he said.
"We're really excited. A dollar is a pretty cheap price and we want to get a few more people through the door and to try some of our great products."
The store on Cameron Rd, near Tauranga Hospital, has been open since May and Mr Finlay said the business was doing well.
Treat Me launched its site in March with a Wholly Bagels $1 deal in Wellington.
The deal sold out at 10.52am that day with 15,052 bagels bought.
