The Strand has been transformed into a adventure tourism hub for the duration of the Rugby World Cup, with local operators showcasing their products at the Glass Box.
Located at the former site of the Kestrel, the "interactive adventure zone" which opens today is part of the 2011 Real Tauranga Festival.
Visitors to the Glass Box will be able to experience the thrill of a jet boat ride on the harbour with Spring Loaded Adventures, paddle a kayak or take a mountain bike ride with Adventure Bay of Plenty, or have a relaxing harbour cruise on the Kewpie.
There will also be free displays, special deals and games and competitions.
Tourism Bay of Plenty general manager Glenn Ormsby said the Glass Box was a great opportunity to view the variety of unique activities available in the region.
