Tauranga's Glenda Gourley, who has spent a career in food and nutrition education, has been presented with a national award at the Potatoes New Zealand growers' gala dinner.
She received the Chairman's Award for her longstanding contribution to the potato industry.
The author of 12 books and educational resources, Glenda has for the last 20 years been the driving force behind changing the public's perception of potatoes.
She has developed marketing programmes for Potatoes New Zealand and is chairperson of the Chip Group, dedicated to improving the standard of hot chips in New Zealand.
A former Home Economics teacher, Glenda regularly promotes healthy food and cooking on television and radio, and runs a blog and website to give parents advice about how to encourage their teenagers to cook.
She has won previous awards promoting potatoes - Excellence in Leadership at the 2010 Food Industry Awards, and Educational, Health and Nutrition category at the NZ Guild Food Writers Culinary Awards in 2009.
Glenda also won the Best Marketing and PR Campaign in the 2009 PRINZ Awards.
She and her daughter Claire has just published a new book, Who's Cooking Tonight? with a selection of quick and tasty dishes.
