Business owner Lynda Aston is offering proceeds from her Cameron Rd hairdressing salon Colour My World, to the earthquake appeal. She said staff would offer labour for free and donate the funds raised from hair cut appointments to the appeal.
"Unfortunately we still have to pay for the product so we can't do dye but any haircut we'll donate the proceeds [from hair cuts].
"It might only be $100 but it might be a few thousand and every little bit helps."
Mount Maunganui's hospitality scene has also raised helpful hands. Armazen will be hosting an all-day music event at the restaurant on Sunday, with a cover charge of $5. The money raised will be given to Red Cross or the Salvation Army to aid quake victims.
Lucas Fleury, who owns the Brazilian restaurant with Alex Aragao, said he originally wondered what they could do to help.
"At first I was going to get people to donate blood because I thought they would really be needing it but they don't right now. Then I though of other ideas and we usually have music on a Sunday but just in the afternoon. So I thought about making it go all day long."
The bands will be playing for free and the restaurant will also donate $2 of every Brazilian beer sold, until March 31, to the cause.
