Tauranga stone mason David Drury's invention designed to reduce ladder accidents in New Zealand was among those on display at the Fieldays Innovation Centre last week.
Called Ezi Corner, the device is designed to enable a ladder to be fixed securely to the corner of the building.
"Working from a ladder on the corner of the building can be very dangerous and I wanted to design something which would hold the ladder safely," he said.
The moulded plastic Ezi Corner is fitted to the top rung of the ladder before it is placed against a corner.
"It's taken three years to get to this stage," said Mr Drury, who was assisted in the design by his son Alan Murphy. Mr Drury has taken out world-wide patents for the fitting and believes its widespread use could help reduce ACC bills of up to $11 million in compensation for victims of ladder accidents.
"I want to team up with a financier and have the Ezi Corner made in New Zealand and then exported to the world," he said.
