Local lawyer Graeme Elvin has been appointed chairman of the board of directors for Tauranga City Venues Limited (TCVL).
Mr Elvin, who is a partner in Tauranga law firm McKenzie Elvin, brings valuable experience to the position with his strong background in commercial law, governance, sport and not-for-profit community organisations.
A keen sportsman and former representative rugby player, Mr Elvin is chairman of the Chiefs Super 14 rugby franchise.
"With the opening of the $41 million Tauranga Indoor Sports and Exhibition Centre in 2011 and the development of a new strategic vision, the focus of the board will be to maximise the opportunities at Baypark," Mr Elvin said.
"The vision will develop community and commercial opportunities, building on the platform more recently established by retiring chairman John Adshead and general manager Ervin McSweeney."
Mr Elvin is a trustee of several not-for-profit organisations and has been a representative of the TCVL board since May 2010.
He will replace acting chairman John Adshead, who will remain on the board of directors.
The other directors are Daryl French, Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby, Rex Pollock and Bernie Gillon.
