Rona O'Shea can lay claim to bragging rights in her household after bagging an 11.1kg snapper off the Whanganui coast last Wednesday.
Mrs O'Shea is a regular aboard husband Sam's boat, Metal Magic. But last week she landed a fish that beat the previous best of 10kg. Again that was a fish she landed.
"We were fishing in about 100ft of water five miles off the bar," Mr O'Shea said.
They had earlier put out a berley trail and had a stray line running out the back of the boat. "Then, all of a sudden, whoompha! It took Rona 10 minutes to get the fish aboard. It's certainly the biggest snapper I've ever seen," he said.
The O'Sheas have been in Whanganui for about eight years and are regular anglers off the coast.
