Comedian, radio host and mental health educator Mike King will be speaking at the Wanganui City College Hall tomorrow night to share his experience with depression and addiction and the tools he used to get through.
Organiser Michele Edwards said it was an opportunity for the community to come together and discuss ways to support our young people and each other through tough times.
"I had been thinking how good it would be for young people to hear him speak after he was here for the National Suicide Prevention Conference last year - he was so inspirational.
"I thought it would be hard but it was remarkably easy, and I got a quick response to a message on his Facebook page."
Ms Edwards said she was pleased at how willing local businesses had been to support the visit - the Anndion Lodge is providing accommodation, the Rutland Arms is supplying lunch and Landmeats and Video Ezy have offered raffle prizes. "Nga Tai o Te Awa have also been very supportive in helping with the organisation and promotion."
