Laser sailor Andrew Murdoch is well positioned to earn New Zealand another yachting berth at next year's Olympic Games.
Murdoch is currently fifth in his class with two days remaining at the world championships in Cadiz, Spain.
New Zealand competitors have to finish in the top five in Spain to be eligible for Olympic nomination.
Murdoch is the top-placed New Zealand from the six classes still competing.
He is fifth on 33 points, eight points behind the third-placed Michael Blackburn of Australia, after finishing of 23rd and 12th in today's two races.
He has a three-point buffer over the sixth-placed Gareth Blanckenberg, of South Africa.
New Zealand have already qualified Olympic berths in the women's and men's Mistral, the men's 470 and Europe classes.
