The New Zealand women's tennis team were no match for Australia in their opening Fed Cup match losing 3-0 in New Delhi overnight (NZ time).
In the first match at the Asia/Oceania zone group one tie , Leanne Baker was defeated in the No 2 singles against Evie Dominikovic 2-6 3-6.
With temperatures topping 35degC, Auckland teenager Marina Erakovic was then beaten by Australian No 1, and world No. 52 Samantha Stosur 4-6 4-6.
In the doubles Baker and Paula Marama were beaten by Dominikovic and Bryanne Stewart 7-6 1-6 6-4.
Although disappointed with the result New Zealand non-playing captain, Pavlina Nola wasn't too upset with the performance of her players, especially since they were up against higher ranked opponents.
"It was tough drawing Australia, the best team in our pool, first up, but the girls played well and are ready for Korea tomorrow," Nola said.
New Zealand will play Korea at 10pm (NZ time) tonight,
