More than 700 people were nominated for the inaugural awards last year for their extraordinary personal sacrifices to help, save and care for others and their environment.
Murupara's Maera Maki-Anderson won the 2014 emergency hero award for her work as the chief fire officer at the Murupara Volunteer Fire Brigade while Tokoroa's Julie King won the community spirit award.
