Tracey Meads knows how small gestures can make a huge difference when you're stuck in hospital - and that's where her idea "Love Letters" came from.
When son Frank was in Starship Hospital after being diagnosed with leukaemia, they were given the letters of his name to decorate his hospital room.
The gesture stuck with Mrs Meads, and now she's asking people to do their bit to contribute to Love Letters.
"It was just such a great feeling getting that. When it's on their wall, [the room] is not so sterile anymore. You can end up in Starship Hospital after just leaving the house that morning to go to the doctor with only the clothes on your back. This personalises it so that it's your room."
Mrs Meads said since the family had returned home to Ngakuru from Starship they had started encouraging others to make the letters as a way of giving back. "We basically ask people to create their own names and send that in then we break it down to make the alphabet and make the names of the children involved."
