Three special needs students being made prefects at a local high school is history in the making, a teacher says.
At a Western Heights High School recognition assembly yesterday, Matthew Gibbs, 19, Luke Hewitt, 18, and Te Manaia Yates, 19, from the special needs unit Te Maru were named school prefects for 2015.
"The whole school cheered really loud for us which made us feel like they were proud of us," Luke said.
This is the second time Matthew has been a prefect.
"I wasn't really expecting it but when I found out it made me feel strong and very proud of myself."
