A 3-year-old triplet and her mother have died in a car crash at Hornby near Christchurch.
Katrina Dale Manson, 33, of Sheffield, and her daughter Emily Kathleen Nita Manson died yesterday afternoon when their van and a truck and trailer unit were involved in a collision at an intersection.
Emily's triplet brother and sister are in Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries. One has a broken arm the other head injuries.
The triplets were strapped in to car seats and in the middle row of the van when the accident happened, according to police.
The triplets' two older brothers were at schools in the area at the time of the accident at the corner of Chatterton's Rd and Old West Coast Rd at 2.15 pm on Wednesday.
The crash has left the small Central Canterbury township of Sheffield in a state of shock and, according to police, has turned the worlds of the Mr Manson and the truck driver "upside down."
Police are asking anyone who saw either the van or the truck and trailer unit in the area on mid-Wednesday afternoon to contact them.
