A central North Island family is appealing for public help to find a gold cross gifted from husband to wife before World War II.
A young soldier boarded a boat 76 years ago to fight in the war and gave the necklace to his wife before leaving.
He landed in Maadi - a small town on the Nile. He went on to name his daughter Maadi when he returned from war, to remember this time.
The cross was then passed on to Maadi, who held it with great sentimental value.
Maadi had lost the necklace either in Palmerston North near the main street bus stops, or at the bus stops in Hastings. She believed she lost track of it around September 24 or 25.
