There will be more sparkle at the Woodville-Pahiatua Racing Club's Anniversary Monday Cup day, with a set of three diamond rings the first prize for the first past the post in the Fashion in the Field event.
Those aged 16 years and over, male or female, entered in the event will have the chance to win the diamond ring set valued at $600 at the club's top race day.
"This is just the start and if this is supported it will carry on," racing club committee member Pat Shannon said.
Monday's race meeting at the Woodville course is the traditional day out for punters and families as people flock to the course.
Currently there are seven races on the card, but club president, Joe Dodunski believes it's likely there will be enough nominations to split a field, giving eight races.
"I'm picking the fields will be pretty good," he said.
"The track is superb and we always get good fields for this meeting."
Mrs Shannon said the Woodville course is looking smart after the local Lions club pitched in for a working bee.
"We've put our order in for a fine day and we're expecting a big crowd to come and have their day in the sun."
The Interislander Summer Festival meeting will include plenty of free entertainment for children and Mrs Shannon said a group of 50 people from Pahiatua have already booked the steward's room on course for a lunch and race day celebration - in lieu of their usual Christmas party.
"As a small country racing club we have to fight for our survival and by golly, we're going to do so," she said.
"We are all volunteers, but it's a struggle."
The Woodville course will also host the Ashhurst-Pohangina Cup on February 11, after the Awapuni track in Palmerston North was deemed unsafe by the Racing Integrity Unit.
