"I walked out of the room and when I came back I said 'I got some kisses for you in the bathroom'. He was three months old and didn't know what I was talking about."
Ami said she stopped what she was doing immediately and started writing.
"The main thing in advertising is having a good idea, and turning a kiss into a character was just that.
"The story is about all the places you can find kisses, and it's about one person's search for kisses - and that the kisses won't run out," she said.
She said the book had taken her almost no time to write, but a year and more than 200 hours work to edit, which she said was a long time, considering it was only 32 lines long. She said she may have spent the rest of her life editing if it had not been for her illustrator, Becky Lazarevic.
"Becky came back and said she really wants to finish this for her portfolio. That when I said okay, let's finish this."
If the Kickstarter funding gets much higher, she said she might end up with a few more copies than she had bargained for. But she said she was determined not to go to a publisher, who will usually take a large proportion of the profits, and instead wanted to retain control of the book.
"I want to have it at a few markets and a few small individual bookshops and just be proud of where it is," she said.
"When you're a parent you just want excuses to kiss your kids, this book gives you the excuse," she said.
