Back from Australia after having successful surgery to remove a brain tumour, Whakatane six-year-old Jesse James Hills is looking forward to being back in school with his classmates in a week's time.
Father, Maurice Hills said today his son was bright and alert after his transtasman flight.
"He's probably feeling the best of all of us," said Mr Hills from Ngatea where the family stopped to rest overnight.
Sydney doctors had given Jesse the all clear to leave hospital but he will be monitored every three months for the next year, said Mr Hills.
He is not sure whether Jesse will have to go back to Sydney, but he believes his son will be able to have MRI scans in Auckland.
A wine auction to raise money for Jesse operation has been postponed for another two to three weeks and is expected to involve a dinner with celebrity guest speaker as well as the auction of fine wines, said Mr Hills.
It will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Auckland.
