They were quickly followed by floats decorated in themes such as the 12 Days of Christmas, fairies, dragons and belly-dancers, with the star of the show, Santa, riding in a giant sleigh with his little helpers.
David Eddy from Lions Club Katikati said it was a very good day with a crowd numbering in the thousands.
"It was well enjoyed by the community so we were very pleased for the way everything went," said Mr Eddy.
"There was a really good atmosphere, lots of things for people to do, the kids and the adults too. It was a fun day."
