It was her second year at the store and she believed the shop was getting about twice the amount of foot traffic compared to last year.
At this time of year a lot of people were popping in to browse and plan their colour scheme for the season.
A 2m-high tree covered in gold decorations had been creating a lot of interest, she said.
Store owner Marilyn Hamlyn said it was the collectable items like the colourful singing dioramas that sold at this time of year, the one-off items that were likely to go quickly from the shelves.
She and her husband - Tauranga's very own Mr and Mrs Claus - had owned the store for five years and Mrs Hamlyn thought people were especially optimistic this year.
"They love the shop but on the whole it's the excitement of it they love.
"It's a really fun business to be in because the people that come in are always happy and the kids love it."
She thought, over the years, more people had swayed towards artificial trees because of their longevity.
"Our trees will last 20 to 30 years ... People will usually buy new trees if they move to a smaller house and have to downscale, not because the tree wears out."
Each tree was different; From green to white, wide and short, thin and tall, bushy and full. Some green trees even had an added snow-sprayed look on the branch's tips.
In terms of decorations, most of the shopping happened later on once the tree was already up at home and people decided on their colour scheme, Mrs Hamlyn said.
"The ones that are always popular are the glass ones."
The shop attracted a lot of the same customers year-after-year, some changing their colour scheme and others adding to their collection.
"The people that come into my store come in because they love Christmas."
