Heavy rain forecasted for early tomorrow morning has Greerton Marist Rugby and Netball Club volunteers feeling anxious that their big clean-up yesterday could turn out to be a waste of time.
Club members rolled up their sleeves and got busy with shovels and wheel barrows to remove mud coating the netball courts to a depth of 18cm after the Waimapu River overflowed its banks last Wednesday and turned the area into a lake.
The premier rugby team's manager Dan Price said it took three hours for teams of people operating eight wheelbarrows to clean the courts.
The mud was put onto the field next to the courts, leaving club officials feeling nervous that it could all wash back again in the next heavy dump of rain - forecasted for tonight.
Mr Price hoped that a meeting today with the council to discuss issues arising from the storm would see the mud removed before the next downpour. He estimated the mud would fill up to a dozen skips.
