A stolen camera has been returned to its owner after a photograph taken on it helped police track down the alleged thieves.
The camera was taken on January 4 and a photo of two men, taken after the camera was stolen, went viral online after it was sent back to the owner's dropbox.
Acting Senior Sergeant Logan Marsh said as a result of information received from the members of the public, a male was interviewed on Sunday night by police and the camera was recovered.
At the time, owner Coraleigh Parker said the thieves should have won the 'Stupid Criminal of the Year' award.
A second man, a 52-year-old local will appear in the Tauranga District Court on January 31 charged with receiving the stolen camera.
